Caring For a Finish

If you have had a piece of furniture restored by us Click Here to print out a Care Sheet.

Warning: Avoid extreme changes in temperature or humidity by arranging furniture away from radiators, heat or air vents, and sunlight.

Do NOT leave heavy objects on freshly refinished furniture for extended periods of time.

Do NOT put freshly finished furniture in to full service for a period of  two months.

Do NOT apply any cleaner or polish on a freshly finished piece for at least two months after the final coat of finish has been applied.

Always use a protective pad of some kind when writing on any furniture surface.

Lift and place objects rather than dragging them across any furniture surface.

On a freshly finished piece that is not ready for polish you may use a slightly water moistened rag to dust.  Dry surfaces off completely when finished.

After two months of cure time you may use Brywax Spray as often as you would like but, at least twice a year to keep the finish moisturized. When using any spray product be sure to spray the rag NOT the furniture.

You may clean a furniture’s finish that is in good shape with Murphy Oil Soap.  Always test an inconspicuous area before applying it to a large area.  Murphy oil soap will wreck a very old finish!

Paste waxes offer slightly more protection, but may be more difficult to apply, particularly on wood that has carvings.  Most brand names are of equal quality. If you choose to wax, make sure you remove all excess wax. If you can smear the wax with your finger, you have too much  wax on the surface. Keep rubbing until you can't smear the wax.
